Employing old masters' techniques, I painted a grisaille (grey underpainting on a two-toned ground linen). This was followed by transparent coloured glazes, and a final layer to intensify highlights and shadows. It was a labor-intensive process, but reveals the luminescent benefits of dynamic colour mixing. The idea is that light passes through the transparent layers of paint creating a unique optical experience of colour.
