In this study I broke from reality, painting a plum-coloured nectarine on a multi-coloured marble plinth. The juxtaposition of the traditional brown still-life background with a surreal subject was a fun twist. The process of painting these studies gave me a greater appreciation for the visual beauty of these simple fruits. It was also a welcome challenge to capture the "epicuticular" wax surface through oil paint.
