STREAMS IN THE WASTELAND
2015-2021
Inspired by the zoological motifs in the Book of Isaiah, this body of work explores wild animals inhabiting abandoned spaces. The theme of nature's reclamation is presented through meticulously crafted, shaped oil paintings. Tiessen's style of Narrative Hyper-surrealism in the New Contemporary movement lends itself to the spiritual and environmental messages he wishes to convey. Streams in the Wasteland was unveiled to the public at Tiessen's debut U.S. solo exhibition at Jonathan LeVine Projects (Jersey City, NJ) in May 2019 and Streams in the Wasteland II was exhibited at Corey Helford Gallery (Los Angeles, CA) from December 2019 - January 2020. The Streams in the Wasteland monograph book is now available.
